Read a testimonial from current At-Large Board member Suleima Cortez:
Why she got involved with the FSAA:
“Becoming a Ford Scholar changed my life. It afforded me the opportunity to go to college and strengthened my belief that through civic engagement, we can improve our communities. After college, I found myself busy with life, but I was missing the community involvement piece. I had volunteered at several organizations, but none of them inspired me to pursue something long-term. When I saw the email that introduced the FSAA, it simply made sense to me. I loved my Ford Scholar experience, and I felt that getting involved as an alumna would allow me the opportunity to pay it forward.”
Why she ran for an At-Large position on the FSAA Board:
“When I saw the board member openings, I ran for a position because I wanted to solidify my commitment to the FSAA and to have an active role and help structure a growing organization. I thought that the At-Large position was a great way to get introduced to a leadership role within the FSAA. I’ve been a board member for 20 months, and I’m glad I made that choice. The At-Large position is flexible and I’m able to get as involved as I want to be. For example, months into my term, the events committee was planning the FSAA Conference. I wanted to help, so I volunteered to help create the invitations. It was a great way to contribute from behind the scenes.
“Our organization is at a critical point in its growth. If you have ideas to strengthen it and desire to embrace the core values of The Ford Family Foundation, then make it happen. I invite you to take on a leadership role as a board member.”
