New Board Members Announced!

In the closest race for FSAA Board of Directors ever, Logan Smith (Class of 1996) edged out Mary (Nelson) Chuinard (Class of 2002) and Eric Turner (Class of 2000) to win the vice presidency during the online FSAA Election in March. It was so close, in fact, that those responsible for running the election triple checked the numbers to make sure that Smith had indeed won.

Ryan Hildebrand (Class of 2000) will return to his former position as Treasurer on the FSAA Board. The Board will also welcome back current at-large member, Chris Schulze (Class of 1995), for another term. He will be joined by new members David Carne (Class of 2000) and Robert Teel (Class of 1998).

This year’s candidates were all truly inspiring and impressive, and we thank them for stepping forward to help shape the future of the FSAA. Another opportunity to run for office will be available in 2013, when elections will be held for president, secretary, and four at-large members.

Vote for Your FSAA Board of Directors March 4-18

An impressive crop of applicants are vying to join the Ford Scholar Alumni Association Board of Directors during this year’s election. Candidate biographies are featured in both the spring 2012 edition of Alumni News and here at the website under the “Elections 2012″ tab.

Members will vote for the positions of vice president, treasurer and three members at large positions. Each elected officer will serve a two-year term from September 2012 to September 2014.

A link to an electronic ballot will be e-mailed to all Ford Scholar Alumni during the first week of March. Voting will be open online from Sunday, March 4 through Sunday, March 18. Alumni will not be able to vote for candidates after the March 18 deadline. Onlyone ballot per alum is allowed.

The candidates will be notified of election results soon after the votes are tallied, and the new board members will be announced via e-mail in April.

The candidates will fill positions currently occupied byoutgoing Treasurer Michelle Boss Barba; Vice President Eric Collins; and Members At Large Michael Meyers and Chris Schulze. (One at-large position has been vacant.)
Schulze is running to retain his seat, however.

New board members will be introduced to the newest class of Ford Scholar Alumni in July 2012 at their outgoing conference.

Join us for a fun-filled fall family event at Bauman Farms!‏

Join fellow Ford Scholar alums and their families at Bauman Farms near Salem at 1 p.m. on Saturday October 1st for a day of fun in the pumpkin patch. Covered wagon and hay rides, zip lines, corn mazes, apple cannons, and a giant pumpkin weigh off are just some of the activities available at the farm.

Thanks to Ford Scholar alum Cari Bauman, whose family runs the farm, FSAA members and their families will receive a special reduced admission rate: $6 per person, with kids 3 and under free. This entitles you to enjoy all activities at the farm – but it does not include food, drink, or a pumpkin to take home. However, there is a food court to buy lunch and snacks if you get hungry.

When you arrive: Head straight to the food court to the designated FSAA table in order to purchase your admission passes. Cash or check only please. (The farm accepts credit and debit for all other purchases.)

There is no need to RSVP … but we hope to see you there at 1 p.m. Saturday October 1st!

Driving Directions to Bauman Farms
From Portland:
Take I-5 South to the Woodburn Exit 271. Take a left off of the freeway and go about 2 miles to Hwy 99E. (you will see Safeway on the corner). Take a right on to Hwy 99E and travel about 3 miles to Howell Prairie Road. (you will see our signs on Hwy 99E before and at Howell Prairie). Travel down Howell Prairie Road about 1/2 mile. We are the first place on the right.

From Salem:
Take I-5 North of Salem to the Brooks / Gervais Exit #263. Turn right off the Freeway, go about 1 mile to the stoplight. Turn left at the stoplight onto 99E. Go 6 1/2 miles to Howell Prairie Road. Turn Right, go 1/2 mile to our farm. (There are signs on 99E when to/ turn)
